Huey Lewis v. Ray Parker, Jr.

In view of it being the 30th anniversary of the release of the original Ghostbusters movie, here’s some interesting legal trivia. But first, listen to this.

Then, listen to this.

Now, do you hear some similarities? Huey Lewis did, and he sued Ray Parker Jr. for copyright infringement. Although they settled out of court, that’s not where the story ended. You see, the settlement agreement was supposed to be confidential. But, in 2001, Huey Lewis appeared on VH1’s Behind the Music, discussing the lawsuit. And, Ray Parker took offense, so he sued Huey Lewis for breaching the confidentiality agreement!

Sound odd? Perhaps. But, you don’t have to take my word for it.

And, for good measure, here are two fun quotes.
